Overview

The Char Dham Yatra is a revered pilgrimage in Hinduism that takes devotees to four sacred sites in Uttarakhand, India. While Chennai is located in the southern part of India, it is possible to embark on this spiritual journey from there. The journey begins with a flight or train journey from Chennai to Delhi, followed by a domestic flight to Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. From Dehradun, a road trip or helicopter ride takes you to the starting point of the Char Dham Yatra, typically Yamunotri. Yamunotri is dedicated to the goddess Yamuna and is famous for its hot springs and picturesque surroundings.

From Yamunotri, the pilgrimage proceeds to Gangotri, the source of the holy river Ganga. This site is believed to be the birthplace of the river Ganga, and devotees offer their prayers in reverence. The journey then continues to Kedarnath, home to the ancient Kedarnath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated amidst breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, this temple is considered one of the most sacred destinations for Shiva worshippers. Finally, the pilgrimage concludes at Badrinath, where the Badrinath Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is located. It is one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism and attracts thousands of devotees each year. After seeking blessings at all four temples, devotees return to Chennai, completing their Char Dham Yatra.
