The Kedarnath Temple holds great importance in Hindu mythology as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (divine manifestations) of Lord Shiva. The yatra typically begins in May and continues until October, coinciding with favorable weather conditions.
To embark on the journey from Kochi to Kedarnath, devotees have various travel options. They can choose to travel by air, taking a flight from Kochi to Dehradun or nearby airports, followed by a road journey to reach Gaurikund, the base camp for the yatra. Another option is to travel by train to Rishikesh or Haridwar and then proceed by road. Helicopter services are also available, providing a faster and more convenient travel experience. From Gaurikund, the pilgrimage involves a trek of approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) to reach the Kedarnath Temple. The trek route takes devotees through picturesque landscapes, dense forests, and flowing rivers, offering a captivating experience of nature's beauty. Helicopter services are available for those who prefer a shorter and less physically demanding journey.
